British Basketball Federation and Home Country Associations address media reports about the formation of a new second-tier British basketball league

The British Basketball Federation (BBF) and the three Home Country Associations of Basketball England (BE), Basketball Scotland (BS) and Basketball Wales (BW) confirm that together they are working with a group of clubs to finalise an agreement for the formation of a new second-tier British basketball league.

The league will initially be comprised of 13 English clubs who last season competed in BE’s NBL Division One plus one promoted team. Following the award of a licence by the BBF, the new league would also be open to four Scottish or Welsh clubs.

Its objective would be to provide a nationwide league for Britain, becoming part of the British National Championship Structure, and to be a contributor to the development of British players in their pathway towards GB representation. All parties see the opportunity this league will offer British Basketball and support the objective.

The league would be operated through a company owned by the participating clubs, which will have a Board that includes representatives of the clubs, independent individuals and three directors nominated by the three Home Country Associations (HCAs).

The BBF is working to finalise terms with the clubs and a collective update will be given in due course.
