Selection Policies

The British Basketball Federation follows a formal process for selection for representative GB Teams competing at official FIBA competition.

The selection process is guided by the Aims of each selection event (as outlined in the relevant policy). The purpose of the selection process and the role of any selection panel, is to ensure that the players selected form the team which is able to most effectively allow the Aims of selection.

The eligibility and selection criteria will be applied to players under consideration for selection, in order to determine which grouping of players forms the team most able to meet the Aim.

It is acknowledged that Basketball is a team sport, and whilst players can do a great deal to develop and perform as an individual, ultimately all players must perform a role within a team.
