Integrity at the British Basketball Federation
At the British Basketball Federation (BBF), we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity in all aspects of basketball. We believe that the integrity of the sport is essential to its growth, success, and the enjoyment of its participants and fans. This commitment forms the foundation of our values, guiding our efforts to promote fairness, accountability, and transparency across all levels of the game.
Our approach to Integrity is designed to protect the sport, the athletes, and everyone involved in basketball in Great Britain. The BBF in compliance with FIBA regulations works closely with national and international bodies, including FIBA, the Home Country Associations & other sporting bodies, to ensure that our practices are in line with global standards and best practices for safeguarding the sport against any form of corruption, match-fixing, or unethical conduct.
Policies below can be updated at any time.
1. Fair Play and Ethics
We promote and expect ethical behaviour, fair play, and respect on and off the court. All participants, including players, coaches, officials, and administrators, are expected to adhere to the sport’s strict codes of conduct, ensuring the integrity of the game is never compromised.
2. Prevention of Competition Manipulation
The BBF is committed to safeguarding basketball from any form of match-fixing or illegal betting activities. We take proactive measures to educate all stakeholders about the risks and signs of match manipulation, working with relevant authorities to investigate and address any suspected integrity violations.
3. Anti-Doping Commitment
The BBF upholds a zero-tolerance policy toward doping and promotes a clean and fair environment for all athletes. We comply with anti-doping regulations and cooperate with UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) to ensure a drug-free sport that values health, fairness, and the spirit of competition.
4. Transparency and Accountability
Transparency in decision-making, governance, and financial management is critical to building trust and upholding the integrity of the sport. The BBF remains accountable to its stakeholders, publishing an annual report which includes governance and operations, while also promoting best practices in financial transparency.
5. Respect for All Participants
Inclusivity and respect are fundamental to basketball. We are dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all individuals, free from discrimination, harassment, or abuse. The BBF ensures that appropriate policies are in place to protect all basketball parties, regardless of their gender, background, or ability.
We expect anyone with concerns about potential integrity violations to report them in confidence. All reports are investigated thoroughly and fairly. Support services are available for those who may need assistance in navigating these issues.
We stand united in our mission to protect and promote the integrity of basketball in Great Britain, ensuring the sport remains a source of pride, inspiration, and opportunity for all involved.
