GB Women arrive in Germany for EuroBasket 2025

FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025 tips off this week as GB Women look to make some noise in a challenging group.

After a tough set of preparation fixtures, Head Coach Anna Montañana will be hoping her side has learned some valuable lessons as they come together to face Spain on Thursday, 19 June.

The team has been growing since day one, and it is an amazing prize and an opportunity to go to Eurobasket. Obviously, we weren’t very lucky on the draw, and we are in a very tough group. Either way, our aim is to try to compete at the highest level possible, and we want to explore all our opportunities.Anna Montañana, Women's Head Coach

They’ve certainly got the pedigree to make a statement here in Hamburg.

GB enjoyed a highly successful qualification campaign earlier this year, defeating Estonia and Denmark in convincing fashion, whilst falling to Sweden over two games by only five points combined. They will undoubtedly have confidence that they can cause an upset and prove that GB Basketball belongs among the elites of European basketball.

Captain Tèmítọ́pẹ́ Fágbénlé arrives with the squad after her standout 16-point, seven-rebound performance for the Golden State Valkeries in the WNBA on Sunday. Her dominant presence in the paint and veteran experience will elevate a GB side full of exciting prospects as well as established stars.

Stalwarts Cheridene Green and Savannah Wilkinson will also be relied on to support rising phenoms such as Hannah Jump and Kirsty Brown, playing in their first major international tournaments.

GB Women will take on Spain to open their EuroBasket campaign, before facing Sweden on Friday, 20 June, and hosts Germany on Sunday, 22 June.

Spain slotted in third in the FIBA Smart Power Rankings, thanks to their overwhelming defence and highly touted corps of young talent, such as Raquel Carrera, Iyana Martin, and Awa Fam. After going a perfect 4-0 in their preparation tour, Head Coach Montañana has an early headache in Spain to start the tournament.

GB narrowly lost to Sweden 62-64 and 63-60 in the Qualifiers last year, and are desperate to right some wrongs. Holly Winterburn stood out in both those fixtures, scoring 18 and 22 points, respectively. The dynamic guard will need to step up again if GB are to finally get one over the Swedes.

New York Liberty forward Leonie Fiebich stars for host nation Germany and will be a key figure in any kind of success they hope to have. GB will be somewhat reassured by their middling preparation performance, but will have to be at their best to beat Germany in their own backyard.

The final squad selected for the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025 is:

  • Samantha Ashby
  • Shanice Beckford-Norton
  • Kirsty Brown
  • Temitope Fagbenle
  • Cheridene Green
  • Shauna Harrison
  • Kitty (Catriona) Henderson
  • Katie Januszewska
  • Hannah Jump
  • Hannah Robb
  • Savannah Wilkinson
  • Holly Winterburn

Watch the games live on Courtside 1891 from Thursday, 19th June.
