Ashby, Gayle, Green, and Rickards back in action in Bordeaux for 3x3 Women’s Series

GB’s 3x3 Women’s team will compete in the next stop of the 3x3 Women’s Series in Bordeaux, France, this week.

Head Coach Krumesh Patel leads a familiar squad, with most of the players having featured in two previous stops in Sumqayit, Azerbaijan, and Edmonton, California.

Samantha Ashby - Eigner Angels Nordlingen (Germany)

Georgia Gayle - Sheffield Hatters

Nina Rickards - Unattached

Cheridene Green - Elitzur Ramla (Israel)

Ashby led GB in scoring in Canada, showing off her impressive range and crafty finishing off the bounce.

Rickards’ elite handle helped her to beat her defender and score inside, whilst Green’s quality footwork and tenacious mentality saw her grab rebounds and second-chance points consistently.

Georgia Gayle returns to the side having last featured in Sumqayit, Azerbaijan. Gayle brings a veteran presence and basketball IQ, with her unique ability to tie a team together.

GB reached the quarter-finals of the Edmonton stop, driven by a narrow 20-21 victory over Puerto Rico in the group stage. Here, they faced the hosts, Canada.

Despite GB’s valiant display, they would lose 17-15, ending their run. But the team will hold pride in knowing they ran the eventual winners closer than any other side they faced.

Gayle is back in the side as GB arrive in Bordeaux

GB will begin the Bordeaux stop in Qualifying Draw A alongside Thailand and Portugal.

They face Thailand at 1:45 pm (BST) on 20 August, and Portugal at 2:35 pm (BST) later that same day.

If they top this group, they will join Ulaanbaatar Amazons MGL and France in Pool C of the tournament.
