After an immensely successful campaign in Bucharest, Romania, both GB’s Men’s and Women’s U23 teams will compete in the next stage of the 3x3 Youth Nations League in Szolnok, Hungary.

GB Men won Stop 1 and 2 in Romania thanks to impressive performances across the board.

Head Coach Will Maynard’s side exceeded all expectations, displaying scoring prowess and defensive nous beyond their years. Their only defeats came on Stop 3, where they lost by just two points to France and Italy.

GB Women split Stop 1 and 2 with a win and a loss in each.

Led by Head Coach Kenrick Liburd, GB developed a dynamic partnership between the highly-skilled guard Katie Januszewska and the interior threat of Parker Hill.

GB will take the same squads to compete in Bucharest.

The men will kickstart their campaign on 28 July at 3:25 pm (BST) against France, before playing Romania at 5:15 pm (BST) for Stop 4 of the Europe 2 branch of the Youth Nations League.

On each stop, if GB win both their matches, they will qualify for a Final and the opportunity to win that particular stop.

The women begin against Italy at 3:00 pm (BST) on 28 July, and will face Romania at 4:50 pm (BST) in their second fixture of Stop 4.

The Youth Nations League represents an important opportunity for GB Basketball to accrue FIBA ranking points, which in turn help GB’s senior teams qualify for the major competitions such as the Europe Cup in Copenhagen, Denmark, this September, and the World Cup.

The competition also creates a chance for GB’s top young athletes to compete together, learning how to play as a team at the highest level of youth international competition, and often getting used to the 3x3 style for the first time.
