GB Basketball announces playing and coaching staff ahead of 3x3 training camp

GB Basketball has unveiled its playing and coaching staff as the 3x3 training camp tips off this week, ahead of a historic summer for the programme.
With World and Europe Cup qualifiers for the Senior Men’s and Women’s teams, and the U23 Nations League fast approaching, the upcoming months will prove an exciting opportunity to display the newly inaugurated ‘GB Way’ on the international stage.

Hannah Shaw has been appointed 3x3 Programme Manager, tasked with leading all operations and administration across the teams. An alumnus of the GB 5v5 Senior Women’s team, Shaw worked at British Wheelchair Basketball, managing their competitive structures whilst also managing across various GB Basketball and England youth teams.
Coaching Staff and Rosters

Afiz Olaniyan is set to take on the mantle of Head Coach of the Senior Men’s 3x3 team, having led the 3x3 U23 Men’s team in 2024.
The World Cup qualifiers take place between 24-5 May in Baku, Azerbaijan, providing Olaniyan’s squad with their first significant test. GB Basketball 3x3 will compete in the Europe Cup qualifiers between 7-8 June in Bratislava, Slovakia, with the FIBA Men’s Professional Circuit continuing sporadically until November.

Krumesh Patel will continue in his role as Head Coach of the Senior Women’s team in 2024, having led the team last year.
Patel’s side will seek progression from the Europe Cup Qualifiers in Bratislava, Slovakia, on 7th and 8th June before competing in various fixtures of the FIBA Women’s Series until September.

Will Maynard will take charge of the 3x3 U23 team. The Head Coach for Loughborough/Charnwood in the National Basketball League and Assistant Coach for the Leicester Riders in the Super League Basketball/British Basketball League will lead the U23 in their Nations League campaign in Bucharest, Romania, and Szolnok, Hungary.
The former Leicester Riders guard will support Olaniyan as Assistant Coach of the Senior Men’s team, looking to drive the philosophies of hard work and ambition that underpin the ‘GB Way.’

Kenrick Liburd has been appointed Head Coach of the 3x3 U23 Women’s Team for the upcoming National League tournament, and will also serve as Assistant Coach to Patel for the Senior team.
The Head Coach for the Bret Bulls in the Women’s National Basketball League, Liburd has also coached in the Women's Elite Academy Basketball League and the Women’s British Basketball League.
Liburd is a self-proclaimed ‘teacher at [his] core,’ carrying the important responsibility of developing GB Basketball’s future stars.

Health and Sports Sciences

Tom Cresswell will act as 3x3 Head of Athlete Health and Performance Sciences, having held the role of Head of Sports Science and Medicine with the GB 5v5 Pathway and Senior team in recent years.
Crewswell has notably worked in Formula 1 and for Premier League Football Club Tottenham Hotspur.
He will oversee GB Basketball’s work in sports science, medicine, and research, helping coaches in training design and performance strategies.

Richard Clarke will work closely with Cresswell as the 3x3 Physical Performance Lead. Although primarily focused on strength and conditioning, Clarke will help coordinate the physical performance of players, including creating individual plans, player profiling, and innovation in training technologies.
He previously led the Bristol Flyers’ Strength and Conditioning department and has also worked for the FA and RFU.
Adriana Sustova has been named Lead Physiotherapist, with Katie Watts also joining the 3x3 programme as a Physiotherapist.
