Great Britain to face Russia and Ukraine at Europe Cup 3×3 Finals
Great Britain’s women will face former champions Russia as well as Ukraine when they make their Europe Cup 3×3 Finals debut in September.
GB qualified for the tournament with success in Romania earlier this month.
They went undefeated throughout in Constanta knocking off second-seeds Hungary in their opening Pool B outing 17-12, before rounding out the pool games with a 21-13 win over Slovakia and winning their elimination game against Belarus.
That earned them passage to the Finals in Paris where they will take on Russia, winners in 2014 and 2017, and Ukraine who won bronze in 2018, in Pool B.
Temi Fagbenle, Chantelle Handy, Shanice Beckford-Norton and Shequila Joseph made up the successful squad led by coach Stef Collins.
The Finals take place from September 10-12 when four pools of three teams will compete in each category.
As per FIBA regulations, the teams were allocated based on the FIBA 3×3 Federation Ranking.
Julius Joseph’s men’s side won two of their three Pool D games, before falling short to second-seeded Lithuania in the Elimination Round.
Teams have been entered as part of a collaboration between Great Britain Basketball and Basketball England to help prepare Team England players for next year’s Commonwealth Games and set about improving the GB national teams’ 3×3 rankings.
