‘We belong’ – Green optimistic for GB success in Serbia
‘Optimistic’ Cheridene Green says Great Britain are determined to take the shot at Olympic qualification they have earned.
GB face China, Korea and Spain on February 6, 7 and 9 respectively in Belgrade, Serbia with a place at the 2020 Games at stake as the top three in the group go forward to Toyko.
The team are no longer dark horses after finishing a best-ever fourth at last summer’s Women’s EuroBasket and Green is certain they belong at this elite level.
“I’m feeling very optimistic and excited to be a part of another journey following the 2019 EuroBasket success,” she said.
“We just have to play the game we know how and don’t worry about what anyone else is saying. We clearly deserve to have this opportunity so we just literally have to show why, whatever might be.”
A relative newcomer to the squad, the 24-year-old Londoner already feels right at home in a group she says pulls for each other all the time.
“I’m always looking forward for the international break and being with this team and staff, we bring a lot of energy, we care about each other and we push each other to be better,” she added.

“I think what keeps us going for each other is we love the game, we’re a competitive team and we fight through adversity together well regardless of the outcome.
“Going into this tournament I’m excited because this would be my first Olympic Qualifying Tournament so I’m just glad to be getting this experience.”
