GB Men on the rise in world rankings!
Great Britain Men Move Ahead of Israel and Netherlands in FIBA World Rankings.
Head Coach, Nate Reinking’s impact was felt immediately this summer when he led the Great Britain Men’s National Team to a perfect 4-0 record and qualified for the next round of EuroBasket in convincing fashion.
This has been reflected in the latest FIBA World Rankings which were released recently.
Great Britain have moved up three spots in the FIBA World Rankings to #41 and up two spots to #21 in the FIBA Europe Rankings.
In doing so, GB have moved ahead of Netherlands and Israel. FIBA has 213 National federations, with 164 of those receiving points in the latest FIBA World Rankings. FIBA Europe is composed of 50 National Federations.
FIBA releases new rankings after each window. The last edition was released at the end of February, so the improvement in the men’s national team’s rankings can be attributed to their impressive performance this summer.
The rankings not only take into account wins and losses but the quality of the opponents played and the margin of victory.
In October 2017 FIBA changed to a new system to rank men’s national teams, and Women’s national teams scheduled to move to the same system before the end of the year.
FIBA’s new ranking system uses a detailed algorithm that factors in more than just wins and losses but also variables such as the quality of your opponent, margin of victory, and where the game is played.
A 20+ point victory on the road maximises the potential ranking points you can get against a particular opponent.
