GB U16 Men: GB 63-80 Romania
Great Britain went down to Romania in their final group game of the Fiba U16 European Championship in Podgorica after a strong quarter was undine by turnovers.
The game started in cagey fashion with both teams struggling to open the scoring but, it was finally opened through Pharrell Wallace-Steele with a strong coast-to-coast move. GB turned up the defensive pressure and through transition pushed the lead to 18-4 as the quarter ended.
Romania came out strong in second quarter as they went on a quick 8-2 run. They built momentum and continued to even after a GB timeout, steal the lead from James Vear’s side at the break 32-31.
Both teams came out strong in the second half and traded baskets as they battled for the lead. But GB handed Romania the advantage with turnovers as the final quarter started with the score 54-48 to the Romanians.
They stepped it up a gear in the last period and stopped a British comeback as they won 80-63
