U16 Women: Final squad for European Championship confirmed
Head coach Kenrick Liburd has confirmed his 12-player roster for the FIBA Under-16 Women’s European Championship.
Liburd selected his roster ahead of the B Division tournament in Sofia this month and will put the final 12 through their paces again this weekend in a series of games against Denmark.
It follows three games against Ireland Under-17s in Nottingham, of which GB won one.
Liburd said: “We had a great camp at Nottingham, playing three competitive games and learning a great deal about our group.
“It is always difficult to see people leave but it very exciting to be down to the final squad.
“Ireland played a physical and intense style of basketball, it was good for our group. We got to put the players in different situations and that was a great experience for the players and gave the staff a chance to learn more about who we are and who we could be.”
The immediate challenge for the group is their second camp, which will last for four days in Nottingham, with a three-game series with a visiting Denmark Under-16 team.
Liburd added: “The chance to play a Division A opponent is a great opportunity to develop our group.”
All three games against Denmark will be open to the public at Wildcats Arena in Nottingham – £2 for adults, £1 for U16s and free for under-5s.
