WADA 2024 PROHIBITED LIST INCLUDES TRAMADOL BAN
On 1 January 2024, the World Anti-Doping Agency List of Prohibited Substances & Methods in Sports comes into effect.
One of the major updates to the list for 2024 is that WADA will prohibit tramadol in-competition.
Any athlete tested in-competition from 1 January 2024 by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) or another testing agency, may face the prospect of a ban from sport if tramadol is found in their sample.
UKAD is therefore advising athletes to speak to their doctor about seeking an alternative pain medication that is permitted in sport.
The announcement about the prohibited status of tramadol from 1 January 2024 was made by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in September to allow all stakeholders in sport to prepare for this change.
