GB Basketball awarded £180k via UK Sport’s Continuity Fund

The British Basketball Federation (BBF), the National Governing Body for the sport of basketball with responsibility of the national teams, has been awarded up to £180,000 by UK Sport to help lessen the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The move will help support the GB Men and GB Women’s squads in their forthcoming international home games, scheduled for November.

The money has been awarded from a £1.38million Continuity Fund established by UK Sport to help national governing bodies mitigate the operational and financial impact of the pandemic.

Speaking of the award, Maurice Watkins CBE, Chair of British Basketball Federation, said: “I am delighted that our application to UK Sport has been successful.

“This additional funding comes at a vital time as our senior teams prepare for international home games. We are extremely grateful to UK Sport for looking on our bid favourably.

“Basketball is a vital and ever-growing part of the sporting landscape across England, Scotland and Wales. We have been on an important developmental curve over the last two years with both our senior programmes showing substantial improvements in their performances.

“This cash injection will help us to continue this progress going into November’s games.”

The GB Men are schedule to play France (26 November) and Montengro (29 November) both at home, while the GB Women are due to host Poland on 15th November.

The games are FIBA EuroBasket 22 and Women’s EuroBasket 2021 qualifiers.
