U20 Women: GB 58-72 Ireland
GB could not overcome Ireland in their opening game at the Fiba U20 Women’s European Championship.
Head coach Jeff Jones’ team went down 72-58 in their Division B contest at the Tetori Sports Hall in Prishtina, Kosovo.
The Irish took the first quarter by a point (19-18) and then broke the game open in the second, outscoring GB 23-8 to claim a 42-26 half-time lead.
GB struggled again in the third as Ireland took the quarter 17-9 to go into the fourth period 59-35 up before sealing victory despite a late rally from Jones’ team.
Loren Christie led the GB scoring with 18 and six rebounds, while Holly Winterburn (12) and Teresa Da Silva (10) joined her in double figures.
Dayna Finn was a thorn in GB’s side with 18 points.
GB play Ukraine at 3:30pm BST on Monday in the second and final group game.
