U16 WOMEN: GB 40-57 SLOVENIA
GB played hard in their quarter final against Slovenia but in the end their 27 turnovers resulted in a 40-57 loss.
The first period started with neither team gaining an advantage as they fought for their place in the final four. As the quarter came to a close Great Britain had secured a small 13-10 lead.
The second quarter continued in the same way but after some good offensive work plus a rebound and put back score from Abbey Whitehouse, GB moved out to their biggest lead of the game at 20-14.
Slovenia then stepped up the pressure defensively and caused British turnovers, capitalising on them as they move ahead 20-22. A late Slovenian 3 saw the half end 22-25.
As the 2nd half started GB scored first and narrowed the lead to just one possession. But the Slovenians then heated up, building their lead to 9 and forcing GB into a timeout. After the break Slovenia didn’t switch off and grew their lead to a 42-31 advantage as the final quarter started.
Britain came into the fourth fired up and narrowed their deficit with a good run. But Slovenia put a stop to the comeback, pressuring GB on defence and forcing turnovers as the lead grew until the final buzzer.
