GB will end their 2019 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket campaign v hosts Serbia this evening in the bronze medal game at the Belgrade Arena.
The two sides meet after losing their semi-finals to France and Spain respectively. Both games were close encounters, with GB falling 63-56 and Serbia ending their game 71-66.
The opposition: SERBIA
Serbia finished top of Group D, which had been labelled as the group of death, with wins over Belarus (55-53), Russia (77-63) and Belgium (70-66).
They made light work of Sweden in the quarter-final, picking up an impressive 87-49 win in front of their home crowd at the Belgrade Arena, before falling short in yesterday’s semi-final v Spain – a game watched by a crowd of 6,500.
The Serbians have a very strong squad, with points, rebounds and assists coming from across the roster. Jelena Brooks leads the way with an average of 12 ppg, whilst Aleksandra Crvendakic boasts 5.6 rebounds per game and Ana Dabovic tops the assists chart with an average of 3.4 per game.
