GB v Poland
EuroBasket Women 2021 Qualifier
Saturday 14th November, 18:00 (GMT) tip
Ahmet Comert Sports Hall, Istanbul
Intro
GB return to the court for the first time since FIBA OQT in February as we face Poland in our third game of EuroBasket qualifying. We currently sit top of Group F with a record of 1:1, having picked up a win in Poland on the same day last year, 75-63.
The opposition: POLAND
The Polish 14-player squad sees four new faces from last year’s roster with Kamila Podgorna, Zuzanna Sklepowicz, Angelica Stankiewicz and Weronika Telenga all featuring. Ewelina Gala – who picked up eight points off the bench last year – and Katarzyna Trzeciak both miss out this time around. The team will also be without Head Coach Maros Kovacik after he tested positive for COVID-19 during the team’s training camp in Warsaw
Marissa Lee Kastenek, who led the team with 18 points during last November’s game, will be one for Chema Buceta’s team to look out for. Marissa is one of three players in Poland’s sqaud who play for Arka Gdynia: Poland’s representative in EuroLeague Women this campaign.
TEAM NEWS
Chema Buceta has all 12 of the travelling players to choose from. Three new players travelled with the squad for the first time – Evelyn Adebayo, Hannah Robb and Sam Roscoe – whilst Renee Busch and Eilidh Simpson both return.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s game, Temi Fagbenle feels the uniqueness of being in a bubble has helped the team prepare for Poland:
“Our time in the bubble has been very productive so far. We’re thankful to have this time to get acquainted with each other as we have a lot of new faces. The bubble has been a bit strange, especially as we can’t leave the hotel, but on the flip side, this helps to limit distractions and stay focused on the task at hand. We have our work cut out for us with the upcoming game against Poland and we’re doing all we can to come all guns blazing.“
