Intro
GB will look to bounce back from yesterday’s FIBA OQT opener v China as they face Korea in the second game of the tournament tomorrow.
The opposition: KOREA
Korea come into the game off the back of a 46-83 loss to Spain in their first game of the tournament. Hyejin Park was the top scorer for the team with 17 points, whilst Ji Su Park recorded ten.
Last year the team finished fourth in the Asia Cup, with a semi-final defeat to China, 80-52, followed by a third place playoff loss to Australia, 98-62. In the group stages Korea fell to Japan, 102-61, whilst picking up wins over India and Chinese Taipei, 97-62 and 48-44 respectively. A semi-final qualification game with New Zealand saw the Koreans pick up a 58-52 win over New Zealand.`
TEAM’S THOUGHTS
Rachael Vanderwal insists the GB team are excited and ready for a fight with a place at Tokyo 2020 at stake:
“We are really excited about the game, we can’t wait to play Korea tomorrow. We all know how big a game it is and what’s at stake but I think we’re really ready to play. If we play good defence like we always do then we’ll be in the game and I think we have a size advantage which we’ll look to use as much as we can. Overall wee’re really excited about it, we’ll fight on every possession because we know a ticket to the Olympic games is on the line. We’ve got to be ready to fight and if we show what we showed against China then we’ll be ok.”
