FIBA Women’s EuroBasket warm up
Wednesday 19th June, 19:30 tip
Belle Vue Sports Village
Intro
GB Women welcome Canada to Manchester in the only home warm up game before the squad fly to FIBA Women’s EuroBasket next week.
Having previously faced Slovenia and Sweden in Slovenia, Head Coach Chema Buceta and his staff will be getting another chance to see the players in action as they cut the roster down to 12 for the tournament.
The opposition: Canada
With Toronto Raptors winning the NBA Finals for the first time last week, it’s a good time for Canadian Basketball and the Women will be eager to build on the momentum.
Currently ranked fifth in the world, Canada Women are in the middle of a five-game European tour as they themselves prepare for a busy summer of competitions including FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2019, Lima 2019 Pan-Am Games and the FIBA Women’s Pre-Qualifying Tournaments.
The Canadians are currently 0-3 on the tour, losing to China (69-60), Belgium (68-64) and most recently GB’s EuroBasket opponents Spain (87-59).
Team’s thoughts
GB’s Eilidh Simpson is looking forward to welcoming Canada to Belle Vue in front of a home crowd:
“Nothing beats it! In Manchester, we always seem to get a great crowd, almost sold out, so there’s nothing like playing in front of the home crowd. Especially with the GB across your chest, playing in front of the fans.”
“It always seems to go down to
the wire, an overtime game or a less than five-point game, they’re always
amazing games here, it’s great.”
How to watch
The best way to see the game is to head along, with tickets available to purchase here.
The game is also available to watch live online via the BBC iPlayer, with live updates available via GB’s social media channels and match statistics and play by play data online via FIBA live stats.
