Player expression of interest opens for 3×3 events
The British Basketball Federation (BBF) has announced that it has entered the 2024 FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup and 2024 U23 Nations League for both men’s and women’s teams, and is calling on any British player interested in representing Great Britain in 3×3 to register their interest now.
To allow players to register, this form has been created: https://forms.office.com/e/K8ETfj6xfE
The form is live now and will close at 5pm on Sunday 21 April.
In the coming weeks, once player registration is complete, try-outs for the GB teams will take place. A date and location for these sessions will be confirmed to players selected through the expression of interest process.
The try-outs will be followed by preparation camps and games ahead of the Europe Cup qualifiers in Constanta, Romania on 15 and 16 June and the U23 Nations League. The first triple for this event will be held in Szolnok, Hungary on 29 and 31 July, with the date and location of the second triple to be confirmed soon.
Underlining its renewed commitment to 3×3, the BBF is also delighted to announce that Martin Dyan will be taking on the role of GB Basketball 3×3 Programme Manager.
Joining the BBF as a consultant, Martin has built a strong reputation in 3×3 through his leadership of the LDN Warriors 3×3 team as General Manager and recently launched RISE 3×3, the UK’s first 3×3-specific basketball platform, offering year-round consultancy, events, coaching and news.
BBF Performance Lead, Fiona Pimblett, said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing GB 3×3 teams compete on the international stage this summer. It’s clear we have an incredibly talented pool of players already, with an opportunity to build on the amazing performances from home nations at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
“I’m also very excited to bring Martin into the role of 3×3 Programme Manager, harnessing his enthusiasm and love of the game, along with his experience and networks on the 3×3 circuit.
“Our objective this summer is to begin the GB 3×3 journey towards the LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympics, with a focus in 2024 on learning, developing the GB 3×3 Programme, getting feedback from the players, and building our performance plan.”
Martin Dyan, GB Basketball 3×3 Programme Manager, said: “I’m honoured to be part of the new 3×3 Great Britain basketball programme and work with a passionate, ambitious and like-minded team.
“The sport is growing at a phenomenal pace and we have the talent to make a real impact on the world stage. Now is the time that Great Britain firmly puts a marker down, building on the great work that has already been done across the UK.
“We will compete in major tournaments and represent the very best of British basketball – this year’s FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup Qualifiers in June are just the beginning of our journey. I’m excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to get going.”
If you would like to express your interest in competing as a GB player in these 3×3 events, please ensure you complete this form by 5pm on 21 April: https://forms.office.com/e/K8ETfj6xfE
