MEGAN HAINES INVITED TO GB ROSTER
Megan Haines has been invited to join the Great Britain team as the 14th player to be available for selection for the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket qualifiers against Sweden in Manchester on Thursday and away to Estonia on Sunday.
Haines, who plays for British Basketball League Women’s side Essex Rebels is now the 11th member on coach Chema Buceta’s team that plays their basketball domestically.
The talented guard, who has represented Great Britain at under-18 level, averaged 7.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season for the Rebels, helping them reach the British Basketball League Women’s Play-Offs.
“Being called up for the GB seniors team has got to be up there on one of my most proudest occasions,” Haines said. “I feel camp is going well for me, and I am loving training with this group of very talented players.
“It will be an honour to stand up for the national anthem and play the game that I love for my country. Everyone has made me feel welcome, and I would like to thank everyone involved, especially coach Chema, for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”
