GREAT BRITAIN YOUTH TEAM COMBINE HEADS TO CARDIFF
The 2025 Great Britain Basketball Youth Team combine will take place at the Archers Arena in Cardiff over two days, January 2-3, bringing together the most promising players across the country in the U16 and U18 age groups.
Following the successful 2024 combine in Manchester that prepared the under-16 and under-18 men and women for their respective FIBA Youth EuroBasket, Division B tournaments, the British Basketball Federation is thrilled to announce its partnership with Basketball Wales for the upcoming 2025 preparations.
The combine, an exclusive invitation-only selection day, is a testament to the continuously high standards that the BBF along with its Home Country Associations uphold.
Players selected to attend the combine will be able to showcase their talents and future development potential to GB coaches in what is the first step on the road to FIBA Youth EuroBasket next summer. The combine will be an important part of selection for the final squads for the GB Youth teams.
For some of the invited under-16 players, it will mark their first time playing in Great Britain colours.
Players who have been selected to attend the combine will receive an invitation via email before December 5.
The announcement of the coaches, to be made in the coming weeks, will further elevate the anticipation for the Combine.
Great Britain Basketball Performance Lead, Fiona Pimblett, said: “The GB Youth Teams combine that we held in 2024 was a great success, allowing us to see more of our talented British players on court at the same time, but also to have the opportunity to start building towards the summer fairly early.
“I’m really looking forward to the 2025 combine and would like to say a massive thank you to Basketball Wales for hosting us in Cardiff this year.”
Phil Gordos, Performance Director for Basketball Wales, said: “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to stage the GB combines. I believe it’s hugely important for Wales to be an integral part of the GB programme, so I’m delighted we are playing our part by welcoming the best U16 and U18 players to Cardiff for this valuable selection event.
“Thanks to the British Basketball Federation, Basketball Wales, Sport Wales and Cardiff Metropolitan University for making it happen.”
Danny Williams, Programme Performance Manager for Basketball Wales, said: “Basketball Wales is moving into a new phase of performance basketball, and working alongside the BBF to host the GB combines allows us to showcase our ability to be a leading nation for performance environments.
“It also gives us a golden opportunity to offer our Basketball Wales coaching community first-hand experience of GB level performance, which all of our players should be working towards.”
