GB Women Learn EuroBasket 2019 Fate
Great Britain women’s national team will face co-hosts, Latvia, European champions, Spain and Ukraine in Group A at next year’s EuroBasket Women, which will be held in Latvia and Serbia following today’s draw staged in Belgrade.
The Group A games will take place in the Latvian capital of Riga at the Arena Riga with the final round held the Serbian capital of Belgrade. GB begins their campaign on 27 June against Latvia, followed by Spain a day later with the final group game against Ukraine on 30 June.
Great Britain were placed in the fourth pool of seeds in the draw, following their EuroBasket Women 2019 qualification success where they topped Group D ahead of Greece, Israel and Portugal.
GB Women’s coach, Jose Maria Buceta, said: “We did a great job being able to qualify and now we have to be ambitious in the final phase of EuroBasket Women. Our group is tough, as all the groups are. This is the 16-team EuroBasket, with no room for weak teams.
“We have to focus on ourselves and prepare well for each game, game-by-game, step-by-step, believing on what we have proven we can do.”
GB are housed in a tough group next summer, with European champions and Olympic silver-medallists Spain, aiming to retain their EuroBasket Women crown, co-hosts Latvia who are eager to impress their home fans and a hungry Ukraine side, who feature free-scoring guard Alina Lagupova.
EuroBasket Women runs from 27 June until 7 July with the final round including the final in Belgrade.
