GB Women in camp ahead of EuroBasket Women 2023 qualifiers draw
GB Basketball has returned to the National Basketball Performance Centre this week as GB Women gather for a five-day Summer training camp in Manchester.
Together for the first time February, Head Coach Chema Buceta has invited a mixture of youth and experience to the camp as the team looks ahead to the new qualification cycle:
“We initiate a new campaign with a camp in which we are preparing the team for the November window where we will have two important games towards our goal of EuroBasket 2023.”
“We are happy to see some new players being part of the team alongside existing experienced players for this challenge. We have to be ambitious about this new project to be able to return back to a high position in Europe.”
That journey begins this week as the group are set to learn their opponents for the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023 qualifiers, with the draw taking place on Friday, August 2oth.
A total of 38 participating countries will be drawn into 10 groups, with each team playing the others in its group in home and away games, following a round-robin system.
Earlier this summer FIBA announced the 2023 tournament would be co-hosted by Slovenia and Israel, with Tel Aviv, Koper and Celje hosting the group stages before the progressing teams meet in Ljubljana for the Final phase.
The winners from each group, alongside the four best second-placed teams will progress to the tournament, alongside the two hosts.
Based on the FIBA Women’s world rankings, GB have been placed in seed three alongside Montenegro, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Latvia. Further information regarding the draw and seedings can be found here.
The draw will be streamed live on the official FIBA YouTube channel on Friday, starting at 10:00am.
