GB U16 Women: GB 58 vs 61 Belarus

After a close loss in their first group game against Portugal Coach Liburd’s side fought hard against Belarus but experienced a tough 61 – 58 loss.

Belarus started with a quick 4 – 0 run but Great Britain quickly got back into the game. From then the lead went back ‘n’ forth, but a missed free throw by GB saw the teams enter the second quarter at 14 – 14.

The second period followed suit as neither team gave an inch leading to a low scoring quarter with the teams going into the break 25 points apiece.

The Belarusian’s hit a big 3 to start the half and quickly pushed on to an 8 – 0 run. Britain quickly got back into the game as they tied the score with five minutes to go. Both teams keep scoring but a basket close to the buzzer from Belarus saw them take a 42 – 41 point lead as the final Stanza began.

The last ten minutes started with another 5 – 0 Belarus run. Great Britain tried to come back narrowing the lead to just two but, they couldn’t tie the score as Belarus held onto a narrow 61 – 58 victory.
