GB U16 Men: GB 70-105 Belgium
Great Vritain’s Under-16s went down 105-70 to a strong Belgium side after winning their last two.
The Belgians came out strong and forced James Vear’s team into an early timeout after just five minutes as after taking an 18-9 lead. Out of the timeout Quinn Ellis hit a quick three followed by a transition basket from GB to cut the deficit to just three. Coach De Vreught’s side finished strong as they halted GB’s run to go into the second period 26-19 up.
Belgium continued to build on their strong finish with an immediate 4-0 run. But Vear’s side mounted a comeback as they cut the lead to just four to force a timeout (31 – 35). Out of this timeout Belgium begin to heat up from outside with a couple of deep threes and one as the buzzer sounds giving them a 51-37 lead at the half.
The third quarter had Belgium assert their dominance and show why they are unbeaten. They continued with the hot hand from the last period and jumped out to a 10-0 run. GB tried but, couldn’t stop the run as they lost the quarter 12-28 with the score at (79-49) as they entered the final stanza.
The fourth quarter continued with Belgium showing their quality as they grew their lead further. But Vear made sure his side didn’t give up and GB started to get back into a flow and finished the game with their highest scoring quarter of 21 points seeing the game end 70 – 105 in favour of the European side.
