GB Men: Player tracker 21/22
GB Men’s squad will play domestically in nine countries throughout the 2012/22 season. As many of the leagues begin their new campaigns, we’ve compiled a list of clubs featuring our squad, allowing you to keep up with the players’ progress throughout the season.
Eight of the squad are playing their domestic basketball in the UK this season, with representatives at five BBL clubs. Manchester Giants completed the signing of GB co-Captain Dan Clark over the summer, with both Josh Steel and Will Saunders joining Clark on the Giants roster.
Leicester Riders have two GB senior internationals in their squad, with both Conner Washington & Patrick Whelan suiting up at the Morningside Arena. Andrew Lawrence and Teddy Okereafor will feature for Surrey Scorchers and Cheshire Phoenix respectively, whilst Gareth Murray enters his second season as player/coach with Glasgow Rocks.
Luke Nelson made the move to France from Germany over the summer, joining LNB Pro A side ESSM Le Portel. Both Akwasi Yeboah and Deane Williams are also in France, featuring in LNB Pro B with Saint-Chamond and Saint-Quinten.
Whilst Nelson moves into France for 21/22, both Ovie Soko and Myles Hesson have departed the county – and Europe – joining Shiga Lakestars and Saga Ballooneers in Japan. The duo are joined in Japan by Ben Lawson, who is on the B League side Kumamoto Volters’ roster this season.
Gabe Olaseni remains in Turkey for a third season, switching from Buyukcekmece to Darussafaka. The centre will be hoping to continue his red hot form from last season in FIBA’s Basketball Champions League.
Sacha Kileye-Jones – who missed out on most of last season through injury – is GB’s sole representative in Israel with Hapoel Gilboa Galil, with Kavell Bigby-Williams playing alone in Poland at Klub Koszykkowki Wloclawek.
Elsewhere six GB players are competing domestically in Spain next season. Ashley Hamilton makes the move to Lemya Basquet Coruna from the BBL, where he’ll play alongside fellow Brit Morayo Soluade.
Young trio Kareem Queeley, Jacob Round and Aaron Menzies are all on Spanish rosters, representing San Pablo Burgos, CB Zamora and HLA Alicante respectively. Queeley has earned a place in San Pablo’s first team roster and will be the second Brit in the FIBA Champions League.
Devon Van Oostrum is the other GB player in the country, currently with C.B. Penas Huesca. The 28 year old spent the previous two seasons in the Netherlands.
Trio Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye, Tarik Phillip and Carl Wheatle are all set to ply their trade in Italy. Wheatle and Lautier-Ogunleye will play for Apu Udine and Pistoia Basket 2000, whilst Phillip will play in EuroCup with La Reyer Venezia.
The squad also boasts several youngsters currently over in the United States, with Cameron Hildreth and Matt Marsh teammates at NCAA DI Wake Forest. 21-year-old Simi Shittu is currently on the Windy City Bulls roster in the NBA G League.
