GB EuroBasket Women squad announced
GREAT Britain head coach Jose Maria Buceta has named his 12-woman squad for FIBA Women’s EuroBasket.
The championships will be held in Latvia and Serbia between between June 27 and July 7 as 16 teams compete for the European crown.
GB will face Ukraine, Latvia and 2017 champions Spain in the group stages of the tournament. All three games will be held at Arena Riga in Latvia with the tournament also serves as a qualifier for the Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments.
Buceta named a 17-strong initial group in May before a run of warm-up games – with the final home preparation match coming against Canada in Manchester tonight (Wed).
The squad is made up of players who play in the USA, Spain, Belgium, France, Poland, Italy and Great Britain.
Buceta says EuroBasket will be tough for the team but says the players are ready to do Britain proud after their training camp in Manchester.
“The camp has gone well,” he said. “The players came in good shape considering that this is the end of the season and they have worked hard.
“It’s a privilege, it’s an honour to be coaching GB in EuroBasket – the team deserves to be there and I’m really honoured to be a part of the team.”
