France, Germany and Slovenia await GB at EuroBasket Women 2023
The stage for the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023 is set after Wednesday’s draw in Slovenia sorted the 16 participating teams into groups for the 39th edition of Europe’s flagship women’s basketball competition, with GB set to take on France, Germany and the co-hosting Slovenians in group action.
Chema Buceta’s side qualified for the competition as one of the best second-placed sides in the qualification phase after two emphatic victories against Estonia and Portugal in February to close out the campaign and book their place at this summer’s showpiece tournament.
Following the conclusion of the draw, Coach Buceta said:
“It is a privilege to be one of the best 16 teams of Europe and play Eurobasket. At this point all teams are strong and I hope we will be able to achieve the high level we need to go far in the competition.
“This will require a reasonable preparation programme and a wise team effort and support from players, staff, directors and everyone involved. We have a great opportunity to show how good we can be if everyone is on the same page and rows in the same direction. Positive glasses!”
