Chema Buceta confirms 13-player GB roster for women’s eurobasket qualifying window
Great Britain Women’s Head Coach Chema Buceta has confirmed the 13-player roster for camp ahead of the team’s double-header of Women’s EuroBasket qualifiers against Estonia and Portugal next week in Manchester.
GB are joined in Group G of qualifying by their two opponents for this window and Greece, who have already qualified for the final EuroBasket tournament in Israel and Slovenia this summer.
Tickets are available to support the team in Manchester in their pair of home games on 9 February and 12 February at the National Basketball Performance Centre.
Qualification for the summer’s tournament is still very much possible for Great Britain, as they could secure their place at EuroBasket with two wins and beating Portugal by enough points to qualify as one of the four best second-placed teams in qualifying.
The roster comprises ever-present veterans who are at the core of Coach Buceta’s philosophy for the team, as well as a new generation of elite talent who are in the early stages of their international careers, and two potential international debutants as well.
Eight of the 13 players named in the roster compete on home soil in the Women’s British Basketball League, with four of those representing the London Lions and having had experience in the EuroCup this year, with further representation from the Caledonia Gladiators, Leicester Riders and Sheffield Hatters.
Speaking ahead of the confirmation of the 13-player roster for camp, Head Coach Buceta said:
“Manchester is our home court and I am looking forward to us playing there again.
“We have to win these two games, and the one against Portugal by as many points as possible.
“The task is difficult but with the support of our fans we will be able to do it. The Great Britain team is a team for everyone, and we need a lot of support from the stands to succeed in February. Positive glasses!”
Great Britain face Estonia and Portugal in Manchester on 9 and 12 February respectively and tickets are available now to come and show your support for the team as they look to qualify for EuroBasket 2023!
