Chema buceta confirms 12-player roster for estonia clash
Great Britain Women’s Head Coach Chema Buceta has confirmed the 12-player roster that will suit up to face Estonia in Manchester as the National Team return to EuroBasket Women qualifying action tomorrow (Thursday) night (7:30pm tip-off).
GB are joined in Group G of qualifying by tomorrow night’s opponents, as well as Greece and Portugal – who they face in Manchester on Sunday. The eventual group winners will automatically go through to the final tournament in Israel and Slovenia this summer, and the four best second-placed teams of the 10 qualifying groups will also progress to EuroBasket.
The roster comprises ever-present veterans who are at the core of Coach Buceta’s philosophy for the team, as well as a new generation of elite talent who are in the early stages of their international careers.
Holly Winterburn and Cheridene Green return to the 12-player roster for the final window of the campaign after being unavailable for selection last November.
Speaking prior to the confirmation of the roster, Head Coach Chema Buceta said:
“I want to thank all the players for their generous commitment coming to play in a window that was very difficult. Their country needed them and they put the team in front of everything else, which is the spirit that helped us succeed in the past and the one we need to succeed again this week.
“Manchester is our home court and I am looking forward to us playing there again. We have to win these two games, and the one against Portugal by as many points as possible.
“The task is difficult but with the support of our fans we will be able to do it. The Great Britain team is a team for everyone, and we need a lot of support from the stands to succeed in February. Positive glasses!”
