BFF Chairman Watkins appointed to FIBA Ethics Panel

Following a meeting of the FIBA World Congress in China this week, British Basketball Federation Chairman Maurice Watkins CBE has been appointed to the FIBA Ethics Panel. The appointment will run from 2019 until 2023 as the Panel continues to safeguard the integrity and reputation of the sport of basketball worldwide.

Speaking about the appointment, Watkins said: “I’m delighted to be appointed by FIBA to form part of the Ethics Panel for the next four years. I look forward to getting to work as part of the Panel and helping the sport maintain its excellent global standing.”

As the governing body of basketball, FIBA’s regulations include a strict Code of Ethics that applies to FIBA’s members, employees and officials at all times. The role of the Ethics Panel is to examine possible breaches of the Code of Ethics, protecting basketball’s image from harm as a result of immoral or unethical activities.

Appointed as Chairman of the BBF in August 2018, Watkins is one of the best known sports lawyers in the world. He has wide experience in a number of sports both as a legal practitioner and as a board or committee member.

During a long and successful career to date, Watkins has served as a director of Manchester United Football Club for 28 years, also spending time as part of the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber. Currently, Watkins is the Senior Partner at Brabners LLP.
