Best of British basketball to be broadcast live
Armchair basketball fans have been given a boost with the news that the men’s and women’s British Basketball Cup Finals will be shown live on the BBC on Sunday 26 January.
The two matches – representing the climax of one of the sport’s premier knockout competitions – will be available live on the BBC Sport website and app, via the BBC iPlayer and via BBC Red Button. The games will also be available on demand via the BBC iPlayer for 30 days following the event.
Durham Palatinates clash with Sevenoaks Suns in the women’s Cup Final (12pm), before Bristol Flyers go head to head with Worcester Wolves in the men’s Cup Final (3.30pm). The annual Slam Dunk Contest, featuring some of the best dunkers from clubs across the country, will also be held on the day and will be shown by BBC Sport at half time during the men’s final.
Bob Hope, Commercial Director for the British Basketball League (BBL) said: “Basketball is now the second biggest team sport in the UK with over 1.3 million regular players, more than one million of whom are 16 and under.
“We’re delighted that BBC Sport will be broadcasting this event to a wider audience and helping to introduce even more new fans to the sport.”
