Azania Stewart wins 100th Great Britain Cap
Azania Stewart is another name that is now written into the pages of British Basketball History. She has joined the group of British Basketball players who have achieved 100 caps, playing in the Eurobasket Qualifier against Greece in Manchester, this evening, Saturday 17th November, 2018.
“It’s absolutely amazing. It’s a great milestone, not just for me, but the programme in general, as I join a growing group of players who have reached the milestone of 100 caps for their country”.
“Since 2009, when I made my debut for the GB Team, British Basketball has enabled me to experience many things in the sport, but nothing matches representing your country, in your home city at the Olympics, as I did in London in 2012, as well as three Eurobasket finals over the last ten years.”
“We have worked hard creating a club culture in the squad and through that developed our own style of play. “
“As a group over the years, we have inspired many young players and will hopefully keep that going. The GB programme is developing players and we are seeing some of the Under 20 girls now featuring in the senior set-up and that’s great.
“We have an experienced squad and we have worked hard to put ourselves in a great situation going into these last two games and I will be giving 100% along with the rest of the team to get us to the 2019 Eurobasket Finals.”
“Playing for Great Britain is an incredible experience and I’ve learnt a lot and built so many wonderful relationships throughout it.”
“Winning your 100th cap is always special, but doing so in front of your family, friends and home support just adds to the occasion.”
Azania is only four points shorts of passing the 600 point mark, to go with her 435 rebounds, 77 assists along with 67 steals and 67 blocked shots. Totals that will be surpassed over the next two games.
She has been an inspirational role model to many young players and her impact on the development of the game are statistics that are not easily measured or counted.
