WBBL -All-Star Five – Week 1
With 12 games to choose from at a super Opening Weekend at the University of Essex, the competition to make our first line-up of the season was intense.
Brea Elmore – Leicester Riders
What better way to start than to talk about our first triple-double of the campaign as the classy Elmore lit it up for Riders in their win against Cardiff Met Archers. The guard finished the contest with a brilliant 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to set the bar for everyone else to follow.
Ta’Yani Clark – Sevenoaks Suns
Another all-action player who contributes relentlessly across all categories, Clark was her usual influential self and flirted with her own double-double for Suns against Eagles. She sent her team into the Trophy Semi-Finals with an eye-catching 8 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists.
Jasmine Joyner – Nottingham Wildcats
The standout player for Wildcats last season and one of the stars of the league, you can press the repeat button if her amazing two showings at Opening Weekend are anything to go by. Joyner had the highest efficiency rating of a sky-high 37 in both outings. The pick was probably 22 points, 19 boards and 4 blocks in the victory against Mystics.
Kara Elderkin – Palatinates
Another player who crushed it on the glass, Elderkin racked up a monstrous double-double in Durham’s opening day success against Essex Rebels. She took over the show with a massive 17 points and eye-popping 21 rebounds – as well as handing out 3 assists for the north-east side.
Kate Oliver – Leicester Riders
A familiar face in our starting five from past seasons, Oliver was her usual tower of strength for Riders as she imposed herself on both game during Opening Weekend. She was particularly impressive against Cardiff as she harvested a double-double of 17 points and 11 boards – plus 4 assists, 2 steals and a block.
Off the bench – Sam Roscoe (Manchester Mystics), Lauren Milligan (Oaklands Wolves), Cat Carr (Sevenoaks Suns), Abby Rendle (Essex Rebels), Helen Naylor (Petermans Sheffield Hatters), Stella Fouraki (Caledonia Pride), Lisa Koop (Newcastle Eagles).
