Achara ends International Career
Kieron Achara, announced his retiral on Tuesday from the GB Men’s Team, after an illustrious ten year International Basketball career. Kieron first stepped onto the court to begin his Great Britain career in 2008 and in the last ten years he has added a further 100 caps in representing his country. This summer he won his 100th cap appearing on his home court in Glasgow against Estonia, in a FIBA World Championship Qualifier.
Kieron’s 101 caps makes him the most capped GB player from Scotland, a fitting record within the pages of the sports history. His International career also started with a historical mark, when he became the youngest player to play for Scotland. His GB career includes being part of the London 2012 Olympic GB Team and representing GB in multiple Eurobasket Finals and in leading the team as Captain. This summer he led the Scotland Team to 4th place in the Commonwealth Games.
Kieron has been and will continue to be, a role model, leader and an inspiration to many and this has been recognised in the numerous quotes and messages that have been posted on social media. Kieron graduated this year from the inaugural FIBA Time Out programme and is ideally placed with his role within Basketball Scotland and Glasgow Rocks to continue to inspire the next generation of GB players.
British Basketball Federation Chair, Maurice Watkins CBE paid tribute to the retiring GB Captain. He said ;

He should be rightly proud of all he has achieved in our sport , as we are. We wish him all the best for the future and hope he continues to be involved with British Basketball for years to come.
