GB SQUAD REVEALED FOR FIBA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS
Great Britain women’s coach Anna Montañana brings back two key players as she names her squad ahead of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Pre-Qualifiers in Rwanda.
Hannah Robb and Savannah Wilkinson are back on the roster following a successful summer with the 3X3 squad, as they bring valuable experience to the team.
Otherwise, Montañana has kept the faith in nine of the players who played in the recent Subway® Summer Slam series against Germany.
Holly Winterburn will once again be captain, with Katie Januszewska and Jessie Ford returning from their duties with the GB U23 3X3 team.
Housed in Group D, Great Britain will begin their FIBA Women’s World Cup campaign against Argentina on Monday, August 19, in the Rwandan capital of Kigali.
Following a rest day on Tuesday, GB return to action on Wednesday against Lebanon with a clash against the hosts, completing their pool play action against the hosts on Thursday.
If Great Britain finishes in the top two, they will move on to the semi-finals on Saturday, August 24, facing sides from Group C. The final will take place a day later.
The two winners from the two finals will head to the qualifiers on the road to the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 in Germany.
Coach Montañana said: “We want players who are proud and excited to wear the GB jersey every time they step on the court. This is our first time competing, and obviously, it’s special, but I also want to frame it as part of the process of reaching where we want to be. We are excited to start competing as a team.”
