GB READY TO BOUNCE BACK IN ESTONIA
Great Britain will be keen to get their FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025 qualifying campaign going at the second attempt when they face Estonia on Sunday.
A familiar foe for GB, having faced the tricky Estonians in the Women’s EuroBasket qualifying round for 2023, where they were stunned in Tallinn 72-69.
Great Britain slipped to 0-2 following that loss in November 2021 but regrouped and not only avenged that defeat by hammering Estonia 100-45 in the return fixture but also qualified for FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023.
Nearly two years on, head coach Chema Buceta finds himself in the same predicament again.
They head to Tallinn with a 0-1 record in Group D, only this time, Buceta is determined not to leave the Estonian capital with a second straight loss.
“We didn’t respect them enough two years ago, and we lost,” Buceta said.
“It was a very difficult situation after that to overcome to qualify, so now we don’t want to make that kind of mistake.
“A positive for us is that our points difference is very low, so we have to go to Estonia and respect them, but we want to win by as much as possible.”
One of the five survivors from Great Britain’s last trip to Estonia is Shequila Joseph who is looking forward to getting back on court.
“We are all excited and looking forward to the game against Estonia. They are always a good hardworking team and getting another chance to play with each other is always fun for us.
“We have the mentality that it’s about us. If we play team basketball and stick together then hopefully we are able to control our own destiny. We want to enjoy the moments and each other!”
Following the game against Sweden on Thursday, Holly Winterburn has not travelled to Estonia with the Great Britain Women’s Basketball team. The GB medical team determined her as not fit to play.

Sunday’s opponents also go into this game 0-1 in Group D. They lost 81-53 on the road to Denmark.
Mailis Pokk was the only Estonia player to score double figures with 10 points.
