great britain’s joel henry takes silver at 3×3 world cup dunk contest
Great Britain had their first taste of silverware of the summer on Saturday night as our very own Joel Henry took silver in the FIBA 3×3 World Cup Dunk Contest after wowing the crowds in Vienna, Austria.
British basketball fans will be familiar with Henry’s high-flying talents as the professional dunker has performed on the highest stages both domestically – including at British Basketball League Play-off Finals at the O2 – and internationally, winning a number of FIBA events over the years, as well as others.
After securing second place in the qualification round of the contest on Friday evening, Henry advanced to Saturday’s Final and again pushed Poland’s Piotr Grabowski all the way in a thrilling contest that had fans in Vienna and back at home on the edges of their seats.
Speaking after winning his silver medal, Henry said:
“What a bittersweet moment! I’m so proud to represent myself and my country by bringing home the silver medal. It’s also hard to accept that my final dunk somehow rattled out of the rim.
“Competition brings the best out of me and I can’t wait to face these guys again on the pro circuit. Thank you for from the bottom of my heart for all the support at the arena as well as everyone back home!”
