Chema Buceta makes one change to 12-player roster for EuroBasket Women’s Qualifier vs Greece

26th November 2022

Great Britain Women’s Head Coach Chema Buceta has confirmed the 12-player roster that will suit up to take on Greece in Rhodes on Sunday afternoon (4pm) with one change made to the roster that beat Portugal in an overtime thriller on Thursday night.

Sevenoaks Suns star Janice Monakana has been named in the 12-player roster for Sunday’s showdown in place of Leicester Riders’ Kirsty Brown, who earned her first Great Britain cap in Thursday’s outing in Porto.

GB are joined in Group G of qualifying by tomorrow’s opponents, as well as Portugal and Estonia. The eventual group winners will automatically go through to the final tournament in Israel and Slovenia next summer, and the four best second-placed teams of the 10 qualifying groups will also progress to EuroBasket.

The roster comprises ever-present veterans who are at the core of Coach Buceta’s philosophy for the team, as well as a new generation of elite talent who are in the early stages of their international careers.

Following victory over Portugal on Thursday evening, Head Coach Chema Buceta said:

“This has been a very, very tough game. I am really proud of the team for how they fought throughout the game. Even in overtime we were five points down and we were able to overcome that and secure the win.

“That performance was a good example of our faith and of our believing in ourselves, and playing hard for Great Britain, so I am really happy about that, but this game is done now and we have to focus straight away on Sunday against Greece. We need to recover quickly physically and from the emotion of this game and get ready for Greece on Sunday.”
