Draw made for European Championships – GB Men and Women discover opponents

10th December 2019

Great Britain’s age-group squads know who they will face in the summer’s FIBA European Championships after the draw was made in Munich today.

The GB Under-18 and 20 Men will compete in their respective Division A competitions, while the Under-16 Men and all of the nation’s female teams will be in action in Division B.

Performance and Technical Manager Steve Bucknall said: “Our last set of European Championship results proved that we belong in Europe’s biggest national teams event.

“To represent GB is indeed the greatest honour one of our players can achieve and the countdown now begins for our player and coaches to go out and show their talents again.”

The Under-20 Men will head to Klaipeda, Lithuania for a showdown with Slovakia, Belgium and Italy in Group D.

Last year’s Under-20s placed ninth in the 2019 Championships and GB will look to improve this time around.

The Under-18 Men head to Bursa, Turkey to play Israel, Germany and France in Group B.

GB Under-16 Men were drawn in Division B’s Group B with Sweden, Estonia, Norway, Belarus and Iceland for the tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria.

GB Under-20 Women finished fourth in this year’s competition.

The GB Under-20 Women will travel to Ramat Gran, Israel, where they will face the hosts, Portugal and Iceland in Group B of Division B.

They will be looking to improve on the fourth-placed finish from last year’s Under-20 competition, where they were edged out by Ireland in their third-place play off in Prishtina, Kosovo.

The Under-18 Women head to Austria and will fight it out with Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in Group C.

And at Under-16 level the GB Women will will take on the Netherlands, hosts Bosnia, Turkey, Montenegro and Austria in Group D of Division B.
