BBF to recruit GB age-group coaches and staff

13th November 2019

The British Basketball Federation (BBF) is recruiting head coaches and support staff for the organisation’s Great Britain age-group teams.

The move comes at an exciting time, with the prospects for Olympic qualification a real possibility for the GB women in 2020 and the GB men’s team on a long winning streak.

The BBF wants to support talented young players as much as possible to improve chances of future international success.

Following a successful summer for our six GB age-group teams, which saw the U20 and U18 men retain their Division A status, the U20 women make the final four and a significant improvement for the U16 girls, the organisation is recruiting for all roles in the lead up to the 2020 European Championships.

The BBF has deployed the Home Nations – Basketball England, Basketball Scotland and Basketball Wales – to lead on all elements of planning, workforce, player selection and tournament delivery for the six age group teams.

In September the head coaches reviewed the delivery of the 2019 programmes for all six teams with the HCA lead staff and agreed a number of improvements to assist player development, preparation and readiness for next summer.

Coaches and their staff teams will to have more power to shape and mould their preparation programmes, work with players over a longer period of time and have solid and well supported processes around player selection, club-coach interaction and workforce management and development.

Earlier staff recruitment, planning and communication with players is a big part of gearing up for the new programme. This will be done within a framework of national team policies and minimum operating standards.

As part of these new arrangements the BBF are today announcing 36 opportunities to get involved and support our national teams. Six head coaches, one for each of the under-16, under-18 and under-20 teams for males and females, 12 assistant coaches (two per team), six team managers, six physiotherapists and six strength and conditioning coaches will be recruited.

The BBF would like to put on record its appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the 2019 coaches and staff.

To apply candidates will need to send their CV and a covering letter to talent@basketballengland.co.uk by 5pm on Monday, November 25, 2019.

  • Head coach
  • Assistant coach
  • Team manager
  • Physiotherapist

The BBF is an equal opportunities employer and encourage applications from suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
