U16 Women set to face Ireland U17s in Nottingham

25th July 2019
Head Coach Kenrick Liburd calls a time out for his U16 side

The Great Britain U16 Womens team will enter camp this week ahead of their European Championships as 16 players will have another opportunity to show why they belong in Coach Kenrick Liburd’s final 12.

With the European Championships getting underway in Sofia, Bulgaria in mid-August, Coach Liburd has pulled his players into camp once more to put the players through their paces. Ireland’s U17 side will also play GB on Friday, Saturday and Sunday around various on-court practice sessions.

The GB Head Coach said: “I’m excited to get down to preparing for the Europeans and getting past the initial selection process. We feel that we have looked at a good amount of players this year and now have a good squad moving forward.

“It is nice to see a real buzz this summer around women’s sport and also GB basketball due to the recent success of the seniors, we hope to keep building on that success and show people that the future is bright”

This camp sees Karen Burton return to the international scene as the team’s assistant coach following a break from international duty.

“Karen brings a ton of experience to the role, is a great fit for our staff, gets on well with the kids and will add real value,” added Liburd.

All three games against Ireland’s U17s will be open to the public at Wildcats Arena in Nottingham and spectators can watch for a price of £2 for Adults, £1 for U16s and Free for Under 5.
