U18 Women: GB 48-73 Netherlands

5th July 2019

Our U18 Women played their first game in the U18 Women’s Division B European Chmpionship in Skopje against the Netherlands and experienced a tough 73-48 loss.

The Dutch side came out strong with a 12-2 run as they immediately showed their experience. Our girls kept fighting and as the quarter went into the last minute the deficit was only 6 (7-13). The Netherlands stopped this run and finished the quarter leading 8-16.

The second quarter saw coach Poropat’s side play amazing defence and forced GB into a lot of turnovers which they converted. The Netherlands kept their foot on the gas and won the quarter 8-30 putting them in a commanding position as the teams went into half time the score 16-46.

Coach Busch got GB together at half time and we came out much stronger as we traded baskets with the Dutch side not allowing them to grow their lead much more and giving us confidence. The third quarter finished 15-21 and the teams went into the final quarter with the score at 31-67.

The last quarter saw the home nation girls show what they are capable of as they kept the Netherlands to just 6 points as they scored 17 ending the game well the score 48-73. The final quarter was a great way to close out a tough first game with lots to build on going into the second.
