GB v Hungary

FIBA Women’s EuroBasket

Thursday 4th July, 11:30 tip

Belgrade Arena

Intro

GB will aim to continue their historic run as they face Hungary in the quarter-final of the 2019 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket.

The game is the first of the four quarter-finals tomorrow as France face Belgium, Russia face Spain and Serbia face Sweden.

The opposition: HUNGARY

Hungary booked their place in the quarter-finals after just two games in Group C as they defeated Slovenia (88-84) and Italy (59-51) in Group C. They rounded off the group stages with a 59-58 win over Turkey before travelling to Belgrade.

The Hungarians are the surprise package of EuroBasket so far, with 12th their best finish in the previous decade. The team qualified for EuroBasket behind Russia in qualification group C.

Bernadett Hatar is one to watch for the Hungarians, leading the way in both points (15.3) and rebounds (9) per game. The game ended 82-64 in GB’s favour when the two sides last met in 2017.

TEAM’S THOUGHTS

Temi Fagbenle expects Hungary to be a strong team:

“They obviously are going to be a strong team. At this level of the tournament any team you face is going to be strong, ready to go and ready to fight. We are too, and it’s just going to be a test of who is more willing to fight and who is ready to fight to the death.”
