Spain v GB

FIBA Women’s EuroBasket

Friday 28th June, 19:00 tip

Arena Riga

Intro

GB Women face Spain tonight in the second game of EuroBasket Group B. The team will be looking to build on yesterday’s win over hosts Latvia.

The two sides will be familiar with each other having met last week in Fuenlabrada. Spain were the victors by a basket on the night as GB put on an impressive display in their final warm up game.

The opposition: Spain

Tonight’s opponents picked up a win in round one with an impressive 95-77 win over Ukraine.

GB will be familiar with the key Spanish threats, including Marta Xargay and Laura Nicholls, from last week’s friendly but the former put on a stand-out display in Riga last night, netting 31 points.

The Spanish team are no strangers to major tournaments, with EuroBasket gold, Olympic silver and World Cup bronze medals all collected within the last two years.

Partido de récords en el que ellas han sido LAS MEJORES 😍

Team’s thoughts

Chema Buceta spoke about Spain ahead of tonight’s game:

“Spain tomorrow will be alert because I don’t know what they thought before we played in Madrid but i’m sure they are – I don’t know if scared is the word – alert about us. It will be a different game from the one we played in Madrid but we have to do our best.”

Chema also discussed how the team approach games one at a time, not overlooking anything:

“We have to think in the tournament, going game by game and understand we are in a pool of four teams. We have the game today but we also have a very important game on Sunday. So now that we’ve won the first game we have to think about these games and see what we can do to qualify for the next round.”

Chema gives instructions to GB’s Karlie Samuelson.
