GB Launch New Website

4th June 2019

As part of a programme to standardise the online presence of Great Britain Basketball, the British Basketball Federation has moved its official website to a new Top Level Domain (TLD) – based on the domain name www.gb.basketball. This is the highest level domain name system on the internet.

The International Basketball Federation – known as FIBA – partnered with Roar Domains, a US-based company focused on the commercialisation of sports-related Top Level Domains, in 2012 to submit its application.

FIBA rebranded in 2017 to www.fiba.basketball and migrated all major digital assets including www.worldcup.basketball,  www.championsleague.basketball and www.FIBA3x3.basketball.

Maurice Watkins CBE, Chair of the British Basketball Federation commented:

“We were delighted as a Federation to take part in this FIBA  domain  world wide project.

The  move to the new domain ensures that we have a standard platform for our digital media in the gbbasketball name.

The three member Home Country Associations have also secured their own unique domains under this project namely, england.basketball, scotland.basketball and wales.basketball.

The new website will be an ongoing development project through time, reflecting current news and information on all our GB Teams, Home Countries Federations, Professional Leagues, FIBA and other relevant basketball news.

I would like to thank Graham Biggs and the staff at the naked creative for their ongoing technical support, as well as the staff and volunteers from our Home Country Associations, who have worked on this project and will continue to do so.”

Information from the old website has been retained and will be added to the site through time, as part of the sports data archive.

FIBA’s Communications Director, Patrick Koller, congratulated GB basketball on the move:

“FIBA is thrilled that another member of the basketball family, GB Basketball, is embracing our new digital identity,” Koller said. “This is a place where the whole basketball community can feel welcome, and which will only grow from here.”

Ryan Nelson, Co-Founder at ROAR Basketball LLC, was happy to see see GB Basketball using the new domain:

“We’re delighted to welcome GB Basketball to the .basketball family and congratulate them on joining basketball’s digital revolution. Their new home at www.gb.basketball is clear, specific and directly relevant, presenting a leading example for the GB basketball community to follow.

GB Basketball now joins world body FIBA and other major federations and stakeholders that have a .basketball domain.
